On December 4, 2025 at 17:30 the graphic artist Petar Lazarov will be a guest in Dobrich Art Gallery. The presentation of the wood engraving and ex libris is a part of the “Graphic Dialogues” Project – part of the Dobrich Municipality Project “Dobrudzha – Cultural Compass: Tradition, Modernity and Community”, funded by National Fund Culture. On December 5th the artist will demonstrate wood engraving techniques to students from “St. Kliment Ohridski” Secondary School – Dobrich.

Petar Lazarov is known to the Dobrich audience with his participation in “The Paper – Traces and Imprints 2022” plein-air and Dobrich Art Gallery owns his artworks part of which are presented in the permanent exposition.

The artist was born in 1958 in Plovdiv. Graduated in Graphics from VTU “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” and later studied traditional ukiyo-e printing technique on Awaji Island and handmade paper techniques in Tokushima, Japan. Lives and works in the Netehrlands for more than 20 years, creating numerous wood engravings, ex libris and handmade author books. Member of the International Association of the Graphic Arts Teachers in China, 9 years teaches in the Sichuan Art Institute in Chongqing.

At the World Ex Libris Congress in Beijing in 2008, he was announced one of the ten best contemporary graphic artists. His works are included in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the University of Wales Print Collection; the Libraries of Congress in Washington, D.C. and Yale University; the Sakima Art Museum and Tama University Art Museum in Japan, the Plantin-Muretus Museum in Antwerp, the UBC Vancouver Libraries and the University of Toronto.

Experimenting with traditional paper casting techniques in Japan and China, Petar Lazarov established his creative expression in graphics. His wood engravings and ex libris are distinguished by extremely high technical mastery and artistry of graphic prints. Working in the Netherlands enriched his experience with various technical means for printing graphic works and handmade books with collector’s value. According to the artist, the correct selection of paper determines the quality of the graphic image and enhances its impact. Combining the accumulated knowledge, the artist perfected his own recognizable style, distinguished by philosophical and universal themes, precision and elegance in drawing.
